Jewish Population

This section aims to present the regional and local Jewish population development in Mecklenburg. Where data is already available, it is displayed separately as charts by total population, number of Jewish residents, Jewish families, Schutzjuden (protected Jews), Christian and Jewish merchants. For this purpose, particularly the censuses of both Mecklenburg state calendars and the census registers have been and continue to be permanently evaluated, as well as specific sources from individual towns. Since the figures recorded there, at least until the middle of the 19th century, represented only the officially registered Jewish residents and not those residing here without official tolerance, these are to be compared in the future with the figures corresponding to actual living conditions from our individual project Genealogical Complete Family Tree. The goal is an approximation of the real population figures of Jewish residents of Mecklenburg since the resettlement of Jews in Mecklenburg in the 17th century until the end of the Holocaust in the 20th century, insofar as these can still be reconstructed.
