Current State of Accessibility

This website is currently under development. We are working to meet the requirements of BITV 2.0 (German Accessible Information Technology Regulation) and WCAG 2.1 AA (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines).

Measures Taken

The following accessibility measures have already been implemented:

  • Semantic HTML — Use of HTML5 structural elements for correct document structure (header, nav, main, footer, section, article)
  • Keyboard navigation — All interactive elements are reachable and operable via keyboard
  • Skip link — A “Skip to content” link at the top of the page allows users to bypass the navigation
  • Alternative texts — Images are provided with descriptive alternative texts
  • Sufficient colour contrast — Text-background contrasts meet WCAG requirements
  • Responsive design — The website adapts to different screen sizes and zoom levels
  • No auto-playing media — No videos or audio files are played automatically
  • Reduced motion — The prefers-reduced-motion setting is respected

Known Limitations

Despite our efforts, we are aware of the following limitations:

  • Map of Remembrance — The interactive map is not yet fully accessible. All information displayed on the map is also available through the textual content of the website.
  • Historical document scans — Some scanned historical documents do not yet have complete text alternatives. We are working to add these progressively.
