About Us

We are ...

  • a loose association of interested individuals with diverse professional backgrounds who are connected in one way or another to the Jewish history of Mecklenburg.

Our goal is ...

  • the most complete documentation possible of Jewish life in Mecklenburg before the Shoah and of the events and fates during the reign of National Socialism,
  • the publication of research findings,
  • to inspire others to take up this topic in their hometown and thus ensure that the knowledge of Jewish history, particularly at a regional level, is not lost.

We offer ...

  • assistance with genealogical questions and family history problems,
  • assistance with regional history topics,
  • cooperation in the field of Jewish historical research in Mecklenburg.

We need your help!

Because historical research cannot be done from a desk alone, we are frequently visiting the Mecklenburg archives. However, the archives offer only a bureaucratically shaped view of the lives of former Mecklenburg residents. Much more important are the true stories, anecdotes, and life events that cannot be found in any archive. We are therefore constantly searching for photographs and documents about the former synagogues and Jewish cemeteries in Mecklenburg and Jewish residents of Mecklenburg, and not least for accounts of their experiences and fates. Ask your grandparents and great-grandparents, look through your shoeboxes, and let us share in this treasure.
