Inquiry Guidelines

Genealogical Inquiries

We regularly receive numerous genealogical inquiries, which in the past we have answered comprehensively and free of charge in the vast majority of cases. Even though this kind of work has become part of our daily routine, we primarily run our website to commemorate the former Jewish population of Mecklenburg, to research the Jewish history of Mecklenburg, to publish results, and to educate comprehensively.

Through such inquiries, we have been able to meet many wonderful people in recent years, hear and preserve life stories, and in some cases even help to restore connections between families thought to be lost.

This too drives us and our work!

Unfortunately, we have not only had good experiences in this regard. For this reason, and because the volume of these inquiries continues to grow, we must insist that the inquirer shares their own information with us, creating a genuine give and take. Only in this way can we achieve progress together and potentially help others in the future. Please bear in mind that we do this on a voluntary basis alongside our daily work, and therefore responses cannot always be given immediately.

If this is a matter of course for you, you are warmly welcome; otherwise, we ask that you refrain from making such inquiries.

Press/Media

We have also helped and continue to help with journalistic research. In such cases, please contact us exclusively by email and bear in mind that well-founded answers within a single day are generally not possible. After publication (print), we kindly ask for a complimentary copy.
